Finding Our Way: The Beauty of Maps

  • Haystack - Center for Community Programs 22 Church Street Deer Isle, ME, 04627 United States (map)

Maps form identity, information, sense of place for each of us, and many of us remember the folded state maps we used to drive with. Bring a map to this workshop that means something to you— it can be historic, ancient, from your childhood, or a map on your phone that you use each month to find a space to park in a big city. We will use the map as subject matter to experiment with scratch tools and small blocks specially coated with India ink over a chalk base to explore a medium through its signature characteristics of contrast and endless grays to bring the geometry of your map to life.
