OPEN STUDIO RESIDENCy

Haystack’s two-week Open Studio Residency is designed to foster artistic exploration at the highest level, and those selected for the highly-competitive program attend for free.

MAY 24–JUNE 5, 2026

Haystack’s Open Studio Residency fosters a dynamic exchange of ideas and creative processes among peers with two weeks of studio time and an opportunity to work in a community of makers. The Residency supports approximately 50 participants—from the craft field and other creative disciplines—who have uninterrupted time to work in its studios (blacksmithing, ceramics, fiber, graphics, metals, wood, and Fab Lab) to develop ideas and experiment in various media. Residents may choose to work in one particular studio or move among them depending on their interests and the nature of their work. Each studio is supported by technicians who can assist with questions—please note that technicians will not lead workshops or provide instruction. If you are interested in learning specific skills, you may wish to apply to one of the summer workshop sessions. Individuals must be 21 years of age or older to participate in Haystack’s Open Studio Residency.

The Haystack Fab Lab will also be open and available, providing an opportunity for experimentation with digital fabrication as a way for Residents to augment and complement their creative practices. In addition to open studios, there will be time for Residents to share work and discuss ideas, interests, and influences across disciplines. Individuals working in craft, art, design, writing, and  other creative disciplines—and who are self-directed and focused—are encouraged to apply.

The Open Studio Residency program is generously supported by Haystack’s Windgate Foundation Endowment for Programs.

How to Apply

RESIDENTS

Past participants may reapply to the Residency, but preference may be given to first-time applicants. Studio Techs will be a facilitator and resource serving the entire group, and may be assigned small studio-specific projects and tasks.
