Come explore the language of repetition and familiarity through plaster mold making and slip casting. Whether you sculpt a new form or use a found object that has inherited language, see how material transformation changes the narrative of an object. We will discuss the history of kitsch, plaster mold making techniques, and best practices for casting porcelain slip. A basic understanding of the clay process is extremely helpful. All levels welcome.
Victoria Ashley Shaheen (she/her) received a BFA from the Corcoran College Of Art + Design in Washington, DC and an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has exhibited work at galleries including Wasserman Projects, Detroit MI; Morton Fine Art, Washington, DC; Cranbrook Museum of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI; and John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Sheboygan, WI. Shaheen currently lives in NJ and works as the Fabrications Manager at Greenwich House Pottery in New York’s West Village.
